The Layers of an Onion

"O God, my heart is quiet and confident. No wonder I can sing Your praises!... May Your glory shine throughout the earth." (Psalm 57:7-11)

My journey began years ago. Really now when I look back, it almost seems like an eternity since I started this walk.

Someone once described my journey as peeling back an onion. I began to hand over every layer to God. Layer by layer--every layer of doubt and confusion, every layer of flesh, every layer of emotions, disappointments, hurt, resentment, discontent, loneliness, and despondency. Until I reached the center of the onion, where the sweetness of the fruit is. In the center is also the heartbeat of my life.

How does one separate their heart from the throbbing, undulating emotions that force us onto this giant roller-coaster ride called life? Life where there is inconsiderate and sometimes downright mean actions against us?

You don't. This is where in the middle is our soul, the heartbeat of our center of being, is the "quiet and confident" that will shine for His glory.

Because if it wasn't for the outside circumstances, I may have never peeled away each layer to get to that sweet precious center, where my Lord awaits me....

Blessings
Connie
